FAQs
Do I need vaccinations to visit Nicaragua?+
No. There are no special required vaccinations coming from the United States to Nicaragua. If you will be joining us from a country other than the United States please check with your local agencies for recommendations.
Do I need a Visa to visit Nicaragua?+
Yes. However the tourist visa is provided when you enter the country through customs. It costs $10 USD per person. Please bring CASH USD only to pay the tourist visa fee. There is no visa or other travel verification you need to provide in advance.
Do I need to worry about bugs?+
Nicaragua is a tropical climate. There are many tropical bugs but none that require special precautions. Mosquitos are prevalent so it is important that you travel with a DEET-free mosquito repellent. Avon Skin-So-Soft offers great DEET-free coverage and can be ordered online.
How much money do I need to travel to Nicaragua?+
Nicaragua is a relatively low-cost country. Average daily costs for 3 meals a day while you are exploring the country will be about $20–25 USD per person per day (eating economically). If you eat at the higher-end restaurants the average cost is about $30–45 USD per person per day. We recommend coming with a travel credit and debit card that does not charge international fees, as most locations accept cards, and about $500 USD cash — most people will leave with change.
Do I need to say anything special on my customs form when I enter the country?+
YES. You will need to identify the location where you will be staying and a phone number for a local person within the country. Please use the following information regardless of the hotel you will be staying at. You will need to put this on the document your airline gives you on your flight into Nicaragua. If you have a layover in another country you don't need to fill the form out until you are on your final flight landing in Managua.
Address you are staying at: Carretera Malacatoya, KM 59.6, Quinta Sandino
Local person to contact: Lesbia Garcia, +505 7558 4617
Is there cell phone coverage in Nicaragua?+
Yes, however you should contact your cell phone provider in advance to determine international coverage and costs. There is an option to get a SIM card in the country versus turning off your cell service and using WiFi calling only so you do not incur additional costs. WhatsApp is the best mode of communication when traveling internationally with each other and with family. Please ensure you have this app downloaded and have anyone you may want to communicate with back in the United States download the app as well before you leave so they can receive your calls, texts and photos.
Will there be transportation from the airport to the hotel?+
Once we have all RSVPs compiled we will work on securing transportation for all guests based on arrival time and will notify you of the transportation arrangements closer to the date of travel. You can also reserve your own rental car through Budget. It is located within the airport and is easy to secure and drive yourself to the city of Granada. Please notify us if you will be securing your own transportation.
What's up with this Corn Island trip?+
After the vow renewal some people have identified they want to stay in the country and venture to the Caribbean coast where the Black folks from Nicaragua live. Edwin and Estell will be joining that group and will travel June 25–June 27, 2027. It is at your own cost with average airfare of $110 per person round trip and hotel about $80–100 per night. If you would like to join us please let us know as we will be arranging a group rate to try to lower the costs — but please beware, if you select to go with us it is NON-REFUNDABLE so be sure you want to go. Also be mindful the local airline plane to get to the Caribbean coast is a small 12-passenger plane, so if you have serious concerns or phobias please do not select to attend. We will reach out to individuals who RSVP for this portion of the trip to make final arrangements based on group size.
